All campers participating in DTA's summer productions must attend an in-person dance & acting audition for thier show(s). These auditions, help us learn more about each camper's abilities and allow us to cast the shows before the first day of camp. Campers will receive their roles at the script handout at the end of May. Campers are expected to memorize lines and familiarize themselves with all songs, prior to the first day of camp.
Auditions will include:
A dance audition (no preparation needed-you will learn a short combination at the audition)
Reading from the script (sides will be provided in advance)
Singing - Based on your pre-screen vocal auditions, some campers may be asked to sing a song from the show. Music will be provided ahead of time so that you can prepare.
What to bring & wear:
Dress comfortably to move
If you own tap shoes - bring them (if not - it is absolutely OK - DO NOT go out and buy tap shoes just for the audition)
If you own dance shoes (ballet, jazz, character shoes) - bring them. Again, if you do not own dance shoes - IT IS OK - sneakers will work just fine for the dance audition. Once the show is cast, if your character requires specific dance shoes - we will let you know.
It is our preference to have all cast members at the in-person audition together, as this allows us the greatest flexibility when pairing actors for readings. We understand, however, that some campers may have unavoidable conflicts. If you are unable to attend the scheduled audition for your show , an alternate audition time will be arranged.
Please confirm your ability to attend the in-person audition below.
